Indian luxury train, the Indian Maharaja, has bagged the award for the Best Asian Luxury Train for the third year in a row. The train was felicitated at the World Travel Awards 2012, quoted by the Wall Street Journal as “the travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscars”.

The awards are first held on continental scales after which the winners are pitted against each other in a gala event which, incidentally, is to be held in New Delhi this year and is expected to be attended by a packed delegation of VIPs, senior tourism figures and international media from more than 100 nations.

A release issued by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) said, “It had always been a close contest as the other contenders in the race were equally powerful. The nominees for the award included Eastern & Oriental Express, Palace on Wheels, The Golden Chariot Train and The Viceroy of India”.

The Indian Maharaja is a true benchmark in the luxury travel niche and has already been a recipient of the coveted World Travel Award in 2010 and 2011. The train offers 2 journeys – from Mumbai to Delhi and vice versa – over the course of 7 nights and 8 days.

The train features contemporary luxuries like a Library, Ayurvedic Massage Center, Gymnasium, Bar, Steam Bath, Business Center, Beauty Parlor, Telephone in each saloon, Fully loaded mini pantry in each coach, Television in each coach, Plasma TV in Lounge Car, Music Systems besides Special Suite for Physically challenged.
