After a pandemic-induced halt of two years, the famous Rajasthan’s luxury train ‘Palace on Wheels’ is likely to resume its services from September 2022.

Reportedly, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) stated that Rajasthan’s famous luxury train would run on the tracks from September this year. The state government and RTDC are keen to bring the special train back on the tracks of a public-private partnership for which meetings with the company are now at an advanced stage, as per various reports.

One of the most prestigious tourism products of the state, Palace on Wheels had to be stopped due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Now that the situation has improved, the government plans to bring it back on track.

Moreover, the corporation is also considering reducing the train tariff to boost occupancy and has a record of an average occupancy of 60-70 percent (reportedly). Currently, the tariff of the trains, under different categories, ranges from INR 55000 to 1.53 lakh.

The RTDC Chairman made these announcements at a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan (FHTR) on 2nd August, reportedly.

As for the luxury train itself, RTDC in association with Indian Railways has been operating it since 1982. The personal coaches of erstwhile rulers have inspired the train and feature all enhanced facilities amid a heritage backdrop. Every coach features several chambers, each further decorated with furniture and details by local heritage.

On the route, passengers will get to see the iconic Rajasthani cities: Jaipur (the Pink City), Jaisalmer (the Golden City), Jodhpur (the Blue City), Udaipur (the City of Lakes), as well as the state’s wildlife-rich Ranthambore National Park and its world-famed Bharatpur bird sanctuary. Beyond Rajasthan, you’ll relish amazing sites at Agra before returning to the capital New Delhi.
