Palace on Wheels History

On 26th January 1982, the Palace On Wheels India chugged its maiden journey. This train is a successful initiative of IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) to promote Rajasthan Tourism. The concept of designing the cabins of the train was to gather the royal element, thus, each cabin is designed to provide the glimpse of princely states of Rajasthan.

Palace on Wheels Schedule

The Palace on Wheels luxury train travel is scheduled between September to April. On every Wednesday, the train starts its journey from the Safdarjung Railway Station (Delhi). After covering the major destinations in Rajasthan, the train returns to Delhi after royal journey of 7 nights and 8 days.

Palace on Wheels Facilities & Service Onboard

All the 14 fully AC deluxe salons are majestically decorated and equipped with modern facilities and services. Each salon has 4 cabins with facilities like shower & bath, wall to wall carpeting, channel music, satellite phones, intercom, etc. All modern amenities are to ensure high comfort to the guests onboard. Moreover, a personal attendant ‘Khidmatgar’ in each cabin is also available to meet the requirements of the guests and ensure a comfortable travel.

There are two restaurants to serve sumptuous food to the guests onboard.  The restaurants are named as ‘The Maharaja’ and ‘The Maharani’ specialized in serving Rajasthani, Indian, Chinese, and Continental Cuisines. Apart from this, for guests, who want to relish their evenings with a glass of fine wine or other liquors, there is a bar onboard. The bar is stocked with the finest collection of wines, liquors, spirits, etc., meeting the tastes and preferences of both national and international guests.

Palace on Wheel also features Lounge onboard. This is the area, where the guests could sit and spend quality time with other passengers. Apart from this, they may also watch TV or read newspapers and magazines.

The guests could also buy souvenirs onboard from the shopping arcade. The items available in the shopping arcade are unique and reflect royal charm.
