Managed by Indian Railways Tourism Development Corporation, one of the world’s leading luxury trains, Maharajas’ Express is all set to run on two new routes in the coming monsoon.

The official release stated that, “The packages named ‘Southern Sojourn‘ and ‘Southern Jewels‘ will cover prominent destinations in west and south India. The Southern Sojourn will cover Goa, Hampi, Mysuru, Ernakulam, Kumarakom, and Thiruvananthapuram while the Southern Jewels will cover Chettinad, Mahabalipuram, Mysuru, Hampi, and Goa.”  While the train will embark on its ‘Southern Sojourn’ journey on 24th June 2017, ‘The Southern Jewels’ journey will start on  1st July 2017.

For promoting these two new journeys of Maharaja’s Express during monsoon in June-July 2017, there are two new offers by the Railways:

  • In the first offer, on the booking of first adult passenger ticket on twin-sharing basis at full cost, one free companion ticket for the same cabin is being given on complimentary basis.
  • In the second offer, a guest who books a Deluxe Cabin gets a chance to upgrade his room to a Junior Suite, just by paying only 50 percent of the difference in tariff between the Deluxe Cabin and the Junior Suite.

Along with these two routes, there are other Maharajas Express journeys, which start from either Mumbai or Delhi. They are- Heritage of India, Treasures of India, Gems of India, Indian Panorama, ‘Indian Splendor, and Jewels of India.

After starting its first journey in the year 2010, Maharajas’ Express, an initiative of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd, became one of the leading luxury trains of India. It has been given the “World’s Leading Luxury Train” award at the World Travel Awards for 5 consecutive years from 2012 to 2016. It is also the winner of several other awards and accolades. The train has 23 coaches, which can accommodate 88 guests in one trip.

From hospitality to décor, and from dining to comforts, everything about this Indian luxury train can be linked to royalty. The interiors and exteriors are equally extravagant. Every cabin has wonderful antique decoration and rich tapestry clubbed with modern world-class conveniences. The accommodation includes of Presidential Suite, Junior Suite, Deluxe Cabin or Suite that come with attached bathrooms featuring plush toiletries and option in king-size or twin beds. Some of the other contemporary comforts include LCD TV with satellite connection, Wi-Fi internet, Direct Dial Telephone, channel music, DVD player, air conditioner with individual climate control, electronic safety deposit and more. Guests can enjoy impeccable hospitality by personal attendants.

Mayur Mahal and Rang Mahal are two dining venues that serve popular cuisines from all across world, along with a selection of finest of beverages. Other facilities offered on-board the Maharajas’ Express are the Safari Bar, the Rajah Club, a plush lounge, gym, fully-equipped spa, and a souvenir shop. The train also has store car, generator, on-board medical assistant, and an observation car.
