Golden Chariot is one of the 4 luxury trains in India offering luxury rail journeys in South India. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, luxury train travel in India was suspended.

Post-COVID-19 Unlock 5.0, the operators KSTDC and IRCTC have announced that the Golden Chariot will restart luxury train tours from January with COVID-19 SoPs and protocols for additional safety and hygiene of the guests as well as staff.

COVID-19 Guidelines for Golden Chariot Luxury Train Tours:

  • All coaches as well as guest luggage (where possible) shall be disinfected periodically during the journey.
  • All tour managers, guides, drivers, and other personnel engaged by the IRCTC will undergo periodic medical checks
  • All personnel have also been equipped with sanitisation kits including masks, gloves, and sanitizers
  • All guests and staff will be checked with thermal scanners for temperature at every destination
  • All guests will be scanned with a contact-less thermal scanner before boarding the train at each destination
  • All transport vehicles included in the packages for sightseeing will function at half capacity to maintain social distancing norms
  • Drivers of all the vehicles will disinfect the vehicles before guests board them
  • All guests will have to follow guidelines at heritage sites and monuments
  • All guests will be provided with guidelines and forms in advance before the sightseeing tours and other activities at each destination
  • At every destination, meal settings will be screened for proper hygiene standards by IRCTC personnel
  • Minimal-contact buffet experiences or in-house food will be served wherever possible
  • All guests as well as staff should maintain social distancing norms aboard the train as well as during sightseeing tours
  • Wearing of face masks in public places is compulsory all the time
  • All guests should carry disinfectant at all times
