Ranthambore Fort

The daunting structure of the Ranthambore Fort has been the main point of a number of historical developments. Placed within the boundaries of the Ranthamore National Park, this fort was erected by the Chauhan Rajputs in 944. Lying 700 feet above the surrounding plain level, this fort enjoys a strategic location and offers an amazing view of the national park. In 1192, king Prithviraj III, a Chauhan ruler was defeated by Muhammad of Ghor who was later defeated by Govinda Raja, grandson of Pritviraj Chauhan. He was later succeeded by Balhana, his son. Today it is almost in ruins, but still is an impressive sight. Within the fort, there are a number of structures such as a temple and a tank.
