Overview

A holiday package with tour to Bhutan and North East India, Himalayan Odyssey is a summer vacation package that will gtake you through the pristine and unexplored regions of Himalayas.

Travel to the places where the ancient traditions and culture is still preserved, chart terrain unspoiled by the ravages of modernity, witness the grandeur of Himalayas and embark on a life changing journey to the Himalayan Kingdom.

The summer tour package traverses Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Gangtok, Phuentsholing, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangduephodrang and Paro.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Bagdogra

Arrive at Bagdogra airport fly from Delhi or Kolkata. On reaching, you'll be greeted and received by our tour representative and will be driven to Darjeeling which is 93 km and will take around 3 hours to reach. On arriving, check into the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2 Darjeeling

Early in the morning, you'll be taken for a sunrise view on the Tiger Hill. On way back, you'll also visit Ghoom Monastery which was built by a Mongolian monk Lama Sherab Gyatsho. The Ghoom Monastery houses a fascinating statue of Maitreya, the future of Buddha.

Later during the day, you'll be visiting the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Also pay a visit to the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre where you'll find Tibetan craftsmen and artists at work engaged in making items such as carpets, woolen shoes, carvings in wood and feather goods. Night stay is scheduled at hotel.

Day 3 Darjeeling - Kalimpong (70 km, 3 hours)

Today you'll be driven to Kalimpong. On arrival, check into a hotel. Nestled at a height of 1250 m from mean sea level, Kalimpong enjoys pleasant and moderate climate. The place is known for its nurseries and flowers. During the flowering season, entire valley bursts in color.

In the afternoon, you'll visit Tharpa Choling Monastery and nurseries. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4 Kalimpong - Gangtok (77 km, 3 hours)

After breakfast, you'll hot the road to Gangtok. The town is perched on an altitude of 1,600 m sitting on a flank ridge. On arrival, check into a hotel. Later you'll be escorted for city sightseeing which will include Research Institute of Tibetology, Do-drul Chorten (chorten = stupa) and Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom. Night stay is scheduled at hotel.

Day 5 Gangtok

On Day 5, you'll be taking an excursion to Rumtek Monastery, 24 km from Gangtok. Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre is the seat of Kayupa sect which is one of the 4 major denominations of Buddhism in Tibet.

In the afternoon, you'll be visiting Tashi View Point which offers a breathtaking vista of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu.

Overnight at the hotel in Gangtok.

Day 6 Gangtok - Phuentsholing (200 km, 6 hours)

In the morning, you'll be driven to Phuentsholing, a thriving border town of Bhutan. Phuentsholing offers an eclectic mix of Indian and Bhutanese culture, thanks to its location. Enjoy the journey as the breathtaking views of lush green tea plantations wash over you. On arriving, check into a hotel.

 

In the evening, you'll be visiting Zangtopelri Lhakhang, a temple that consecrates Guru Rinpoche. Also visit the market. Night stay at is scheduled at Phuentsholing only.

Day 7 Phuentsholing - Thimphu (180 km, 6 hours)

After breakfast, you'll be heading to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. En route, visit Kharbandi Goemba, a magnificent monastery. Close to Thimphu, halt to visit Simtkha Dzong (dzong = fort),the oldest fort of Bhutan built in 1627. The Dzong nowadays houses a school for Buddhist studies.

On arrival in Thimphu, check into a hotel for overnight stay.

Day 8 Thimphu

Thimphu is mix of modern and traditional. It is the administrative centre of the government, it's the hub of all commercial activities, and it's also the heart of religious actions.

Set out for sightseeing of Thimphu visiting Tashichhodzong, the 'castle of glorious religion', Memorial Chorten, commemorating third ruler of the Kingdom, Government Handicrafts Emporium, Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, Traditional Medicine Institute and Art School. Night stay is at the hotel in Thimphu.

Day 9 Thimphu - Punakha (75 km, 2.5 hours)

In the morning, you'll be heading to Punakha crossing on the way legendry Dochula Pass which heralds mesmerizing vistas of three peaks. Check into the hotel on arriving Punakha.

During the day, go for sightseeing trip of Punakha. Visit the marvelous imposing fort Punakha Dzong and the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Also drive to Wangduephodrang, a town with throbboing local bazaars. Visit here splendid Wangduephodrang Dzong, perched atop a hill towering above the confluence of Tang Chhu (chhu = river) and Punakha Chhu. Night stay is scheduled at the hotel.

Day 10 Punakha - Paro (125 km, 4.5 hours)

In the morning proceed to spectacular valley of Paro. Paro is the storehouse of traditions, mythologies, legends, culture and breathtaking vistas. On arrival, check into a hotel. Later, visit Ta Dzong, Rinpung Dzong and National Museum of Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11 Paro

In the morning, you'll be escorted to ruined fortress of Drukgyel Dzong. The ruins of this fort tell the stories of Bhutanese warriors who defended a host of invasions by Tibetan armies. You'll also visit a traditional farm house, before taking an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, often referred to as Tiger's Nest.

In the evening, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the holiest shrines of Bhutan. Retire to the hotel for night stay.

Day 12 Paro - Departure

The Himalayan Odyssey ends today. After breakfast, you'll be driven to Paro airport to and board a flight back home.
