According to Soman S Pathy, Liaison Officer of Gujarat Tourism, the idea behind the Runn Utsav is to make the tourists experience the variety of Kutch region, the Kutch desert, and also to generate the employment for local people. He said the move was to attract the tourists in order to get a firsthand experience of the culture and traditions of the state which is more famous for its pilgrimage sites. The state is already working on an electronic campaign with Amitabh Bachchan for publicizing its lesser known sites, including some Buddhist heritage sites.
