New Palace on Wheels commences journey from 6th September

By Gaurav Srivastava on Sep 04, 2017

Palace on Wheels, also known as PoW, the royal train of Rajasthan, will now chug its way through the state in a completely new avatar from 6th September 2017. From this year, this train will operate on the rake of Royal Rajasthan on wheels (RRoW). Albeit the blue color of RRoW has been left unchanged, the coaches have been completely renovated to lend them a resemblance to PoW.

Overall, the design of the train looks more appealing and spacious, with a greater element of luxury attached to it. The train now looks prepared to welcome passengers aboard. Providing further information on the train, PoW general manager Pradeep Bohra said that although the train had the same tariff and itinerary, it was far more spacious and comfortable than the earlier version. In addition, it has now been equipped with two spacious restaurant cum bars. Bohra also stated that the train management had received confirmed bookings of 1,032 passengers for this season, which roughly makes up around 50% of advance bookings for the train this season.

However, the first trip which will depart from New Delhi on Wednesday will have 35 tourists onboard. Some of the reasons cited by RTDC and the state department of tourism behind the conversion of RRoW to PoW were its constant failure to attract tourists while the PoW suffered from technical issues in its coaches.

Currently, the train is parked at Bais Godown Railway Station with the PoW standing adjacent to it. The RTDC management plans to run the old PoW rakes on a different route, particularly the desert areas which has already been approved by the Railways authority.
