Mahaparinirvan Express

The Mahaparinirvan Express, a Buddhist Pilgrim Train is the newest initiative of the IRCTC ( Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) that will cater to Buddhist pilgrims on a pan-India, 8 day journey to all major Buddhist destinations. The train traverses through important pilgrim destinations in both India and Nepal. The train was inaugurated in 2007 and 5 years on, has gained decent credibility among Buddhist devotees who swear by the train's well thought out itinerary and the luxury it affords.

Inside The Mahaparinirvan Express

The Mahaparinirvan Express has 18 first AC berths, 92 two-tier AC berths and 256 three-tier AC berths. Although not a luxury train per se, the Mahaparinirvan Express still affords great levels of luxury and comfort to its passengers.

The Journey

The Mahaparinirvan Express journey is an elaborate, well planned 8 day tour that begins and ends at Delhi. During its course, the Mahaparinirvan Express travels through prominent Buddhist pilgrim destinations of Bodhgaya, Varanasi, Sarnath, Lumbini, Sravasti, besides the city of the Taj Mahal, Agra. Tariff for Buddhist Train (Season 2017-2018)
Day 1, Saturday
8:40 hrs Reporting at the Delhi Cantonment railway station.
9:10 hrs Steam Express departs.
13:00 hrs Lunch on Board.
16:00 hrs Welcome at Alwar station on arrival with tika & garland of guest by RTDC.
16:30 hrs Transfer to Hotel Tiger Den or Similar by Deluxe Coach via Lake Palace at Siliserh stopping at Lake Palace, Siliserh for Tea/Snacks.
17:30 hrs Welcome & Check-in at Hotel Tiger Den or Similar with welcome drink(non-alcoholic), accommodation on twin sharing basis.
20:00 hrs Cultural Programme followed by Dinner at Hotel. Over night stay at Hotel

  • Additional USD 150 per person for confirmed 2 seater coupe / Cabin in AC 1st Class.
  • First AC Coupe consist only two passengers sharing a cabin during the train journey.
  • Tour costs mentioned above are based on per person per night on twin sharing.Half fare for children between 5 and 12 years of age with bed in the same room (Age proof of children is to be furnished, which is required at the time of issuance of tickets)
  • Kindly note the Ministry of Finance, Government of India has proposed the service tax of 5.15% on the accommodation charges and are planning to charge the same. If the same is confirmed, it will be charged accordingly.
  • The above rates are subject to change on the basis of currency fluctuation.
Hotel Single Occupancy

Passenger who would like to have Single occupancy i.e. do not wish to share the room with anyone else should choose the option at the time of booking by paying additional amount of US$ 50 per night or US$ 200 for the full tour.

Note. Single Occupancy is not be applicable for Train journey.

  • Hotel stay in Delhi before & after the trip, air ticket, visa charges etc.

Cancellation Policy :

Within a period of 44 to 15 Days (excluding departure date) 25% of the package cost
Within a period of 14 to 7 Days (excluding of Departure Date) 50% of the package cost
Within the period of 7 Days or before the scheduled date of departure 100% of the package cost
