
Day 1: Delhi
Delhi is the most accessible destination in North India, for guests coming here from all over the world. Owing to its location and state of the art facilities housed here that to cater to the tourists, Delhi acts as the base camp for most of the tours in and around this region; the Forts and Castles of Rajasthan tour being no exception. Explore the heritage of the city through the monuments housed here. The India Gate, the Qutab Minar, the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid, and the Humayun’s tomb are a few of the monuments to name in the order.
Day 2: Delhi – Mandawa
The first destination of the forts and castles tour, after Delhi, is Mandawa. Located in the heart of the Shekhawati region, this place is most famous for its painted havelis! Yes, the mansions in this region exhibit great artistic work of the artists and painters through the frescoes that adorn their walls and ceilings. Some of the popular names in this category include: Poddar Haveli, Goenka Haveli, Aath Haveli, and Khedwal Bhawan.
Day 3: Mandawa – Bikaner
Post-breakfast leave for Bikaner, a princely town in the state of Rajasthan most noted for its excellent collection of camels; besides the forts and palaces that dot it. The city is home to a number of medieval forts and palaces and the foremost ones to name here are the Lalgarh Palace, the Junagadh Fort and the Gajner Palace that is located just a few km from the heart of the city. A number of havelis that display excellent Indian art specimens also share the limelight in Bikaner. The Rampuria Group of havelis and the Daga Chowk havelis are a few to name in the order. These havelis are grand examples of the artistic talents of the locals here and still manage to capture the senses of the onlooker at the very first glance. The highlight of the havelis in this region lies in the fact that they are without any toilets!
Day 4- 5: Bikaner – Jaisalmer
On the 4th day of the tour, embark on an excursion that will take you to Jaisalmer, located just a few km from Bikaner.
Known as the ‘Golden city of India’, Jaisalmer tops the list of destinations when it comes to the names of cities that house the best forts and castles in India. The yellow sandstone monuments and residential apartments that are scattered throughout the city, take visitors on a trip back through the memory lane. The beauty of the forts of the erstwhile kings, the havelis of the rich merchants, and the cenotaphs of the royal family members lies in the cravings and impeccable designing. The carvings seem so real, almost as if they narrate a classic story of the days of yore.
We will not only treat you to the grand visuals of the place but will also ensure that you experience the opulence, first hand. And in that we will organize for you camel safaris to the sand dunes, musical evenings, and grand dinner parties in the most authentic ambience so that you get a real insight into the place.
Day 6: Jaisalmer – Jodhpur
On the 6th day, the trail will head towards Jodhpur, another princely Indian city located in Rajasthan. Jodhpur is a walled city housing in its midst several monuments that will enhance your pleasures of embarking on a forts and castles tour. The beauty of each of the majestic monuments such as the Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and the Osiyan temple will simply take your breath away.
Day 7 -8: Jodhpur – Udaipur
The drive from Jodhpur to Udaipur will take almost 6 hours. However, to break the monotony of the journey and also to give a feel of completeness to your trip, we have designed the trip in a way that will unfold surprises, enroute too. Ranakpur, is located at a distance of about 160 km from Udaipur and is mostly visited for the Jain temple complexes that are housed in its midst. You will enjoy a brief halt here and explore the temples and their architectural beauty. The patterns and designs that adorn the pillars and halls of the temples exhibit classic examples of the 15th century art.
Udaipur, the next destination, is known as the city of lakes. Adding pristine beauty to the forts, palaces, and other monuments is the Lake Pichola that is located in the heart of the city. The city Palace complex housing majestic structures like Fateh Prakash, Shiv Niwas and also Shambhu Niwas is the first destination one heads to after arriving here. The Lake Palace and the Jag Niwas with their distinct architectural illustrations are the other jewels that dazzle in this city.
Day 9: Udaipur – Pushkar
A trip across the forts and castles of Rajasthan would be rendered incomplete unless one also visits the numerous temples and shrines located here. Replete with a magical aura and beelines of devotees, the temples of Rajasthan also display ancient Indian art and crafts specimens, very peculiar to this region. The temple of Eklingji and the Nathdwara temple, located a few km from Udaipur, testify this fact to the core. Made up of marble and sandstone, these temples attract devotees from all over India and abroad.
Post-paying a visit to the temples mentioned above, you will then head towards Pushkar, one of the holiest Indian cities especially for the Hindus. The temples in Pushkar and the Pushkar Lake are all held in very high reverence by the devotees. With 52 ghats and a number of temple complexes, a visit to this sleepy town is believed to relieve the visitors of many sins.
Day 10: Pushkar – Samode
On the tenth day of the tour, proceed towards Samode, another interesting destination with respect to the forts and castles tour. Nestled comfortably only a few km off Jaipur, the city is dotted with ancient havelis, forts and palaces. The Samode Palace, the Samode Fort, and the Samode Bagh are a few of the attractions to name here.
Day 11 - 12: Samode – Jaipur
Leave Samode for Jaipur on the 12th day and arrive in the capital city of Rajasthan to explore its various sights and smells. Jaipur is known as the ‘Pink city of India’ drawing this connection from the fact that most of the buildings in this city adorn the color on its outer walls. Jaipur is home to some of the masterpiece monuments in the country like Hawa Mahal, the Rambagh Palace, Jal Mahal, and Nahargarh Fort. Temples like the Lakshmi Narayan temple, the Moti Doongri temple, the Swami Narayan temple, and the Galtaji also attract tourists to this place in huge numbers.
The Amer Fort located a few km from Jaipur offers excellent excursion opportunities to the visitors coming here. You can plan a visit to this place on the 2nd day of your Jaipur visit.
Day 13: Jaipur – Agra
From the regal city of Jaipur to the majestic Agra. En route, halt over at Fatehpur Sikri to witness the splendor of this deserted city. By lunch time you will arrive in Agra. So, post a hearty meal, embark on city tours across Agra city. The attractions that you will visit here include Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Itmad – ud –Daullah, and the Jama Masjid. Each of these destinations is an example of fine Mughal architecture and the red sandstone construction is a common thread amongst all Mughal monuments. The Taj Mahal is however an exception to this.
Day 14: Agra – Delhi
After breakfast leave for Delhi. It will take you about 4 hours to reach here. So, on arrival in the city you will head straight to the airport for your onward journey back home.
